The Season Draws to a close. . . Most of us never saw this coming... who could have known that Greenorhea would get knocked right out of championship contention in their FIRST post-season game? Who could have guessed that? What's that? You all saw it? I didn't. That team was built to win! Other than that massive upset, you may have also noticed that the first place Cheerleaders and second place Tang have ALSO been knocked out of the Championship round! Those middle-rung hangers-on actually brought their best game to the field 2 weeks ago and now Ace of Base and Westside Whackers are left standing to try and take Dogtown Division's first official Championship. The game is this Thursday, October 20th. The consolation round between Tang and the Cheerleaders will start at 7:30pm SHARP and probably get called no matter where it stands at 8:00pm for the Championship game. (Makes more time for drinking...) The winner will go on to represent Dogtown at the Regionals, Nov 5th. So come on out and cheer for the team you think should represent us in November!
We need volunteers at the regionals! Hopefully you're all aware by now that on Saturday 11/5, L.A. will be hosting a Regional Round of the WAKA President's Cup. It is the first Regional held in SoCal, and the largest yet held in the state. We hope to take advantage of the outstanding volunteer corps of Hollywood, Dogtown and Studio to help put on a fun and organized event. We're going to need at least 8 of the very best Umpires in the city, and we wouldn't mind having another dozen volunteers to help set up fields, check players in, distribute information, decorate, clean up, and whatever other fun stuff we have the time or inclination to pull off. The games will be held at the Rancho Cienega Sports Complex. We'll want to be there at 11:00am sharp to set things up, so we can start 4 simultaneous games at noon. By 4:00pm we should be off to Big Wangs for the drinking portion of the day. We know some of you are still on contending teams, so it is of course understood that players won't be asked to Ump while they're still playing. If you would like to volunteer time, please shoot us an email. Thanks!
The End Of Season prom Don't be a dork like Ducky - make sure you're at the end of season party to beat all end of season parties. That's right, it's the first-ever All-Division 80s Kickball Prom. This is the first season that LA kickballers have split into different Divisions, so this is a chance to catch up with old friends while meeting new faces. There will be plenty of food, drinking and dancing to 80s music all night long (but no Lionel Richie), and you don't even have to worry about hiding out back to sneak a smoke or a drink! Festivities kick off at 7 p.m. and go until 11:30 p.m. The event is taking place at the Burbank Elks Lodge, located at 2232 N. Hollywood Way. And best of all, it's only $5 for WAKA players (feel free to bring your steady sweetheart - non-WAKA players can get in for just $10). For more information, you can read the handy flyer. If you want to attend, you must RSVP by Oct. 29 - and with a party that involves the Hollywood, Studio, Dogtown and Riptide Divisions, you'll want to make sure you reserve your spot. To RSVP, drop a line to cahollywood1@worldkickball.com, letting us know if you are coming and if you are bringing a date.
Winter Season Update Should there be a winter season for Dogtown? Unlike less fortunate cities, Los Angeles weather is kickball-friendly all year. But shorter days are coming up, and games might be better suited to weekend afternoons rather than the current later start time on weekday evenings. Are you interested in playing a winter season? You can e-mail Orion to let him know. Your captains will also bring this discussion to your team shortly, so be ready to let them know your thoughts on the subject.

Division Bar - Yankee Doodles, 3rd St Our WAKA Division Bar is even more important than our home field. It's the heart and center of the division's social aspect. The field is a place for team solidarity, but the division bar is where you learn that the people in the other dugout are just as good-natured and fun loving as yourselves! So make an effort to come out after every game and let the division know that there's no ill-feelings. What happens on the field, stays on the field. What happens at the division bar are the memories we keep for many seasons to come! Our division bar, Yankee Doodles, is located between Broadway and Santa Monica on the 3rd Street Promenade. Aside from street parking, there is $3 parking in any of the lots off 2nd and 4th street, or the mall parking lot off Broadway. For driving directions, check the map. |
